From Thought to Thing: 101

March 25 - 29, 2019

Course Overview

In this course you will see what it takes to go from an idea to a prototype. We explain the skills required each step of the way. Whether it is electrical, mechanical or fabrication, the world gets faster and more connected everyday. Learn the way with SolderWorks.

Day 1: Introduction + Breadboarding
The first day of the course orients students to why these skills matter and where they fit in. We will cover how to produce a proof of concept with breadboarding.
Day 2: Eagle Design
We cover AutoDesk Eagle and how it can help you achieve your first prototype. From traces to components, we will cover Eagle basics and how to get from a breadboard to PCB.
Day 3: Fusion 360 Design
Learn AutoDesk Fusion 360 and what role does it play in making a prototype. Discover the basics of 3D computer aided design.
Day 4: Preparing for Fabrication
Once you have a file created (either PCB or 3D model) discover/learn how you use that file to fabricate a prototype. Understand what files do you need and why.
Day 5: Fabrication + Course Summary
On the final day of the course, review the basics of how to go from a thought to a thing. We will recap the course which guided you through the design process to the fabrication files.
